Twin Blog: Intro
Wild, busy and chaotic might be words that others use to describe my family. We are definitely quirky, but I in all the best ways. Starting out I never thought, yep, I’m going to be a mom to five girls, but here I am. In fact some of my fellow coworkers remember a time when I clearly stated, “I’m not having kids.” I was the oldest of three siblings so I understood the work involved in childcare. What I hadn’t experienced was the adoration and love that you have for your own child. Lay down your life, momma bear, sacrifice, work hard so they can have a great life kinda love. The ironic twist was the twins.
The appointment was set for a vasectomy, but as it goes it takes some time to get into specialist. We had a family vacation to Las Vegas scheduled in the interim. Thanks to grandma, Mom, and Dad got a date night out on the town. Heads up, what happens in Vegas doesn’t always stay in Vegas.
I came back to work and my busy life. Several weeks later on my overnight shift at the hospital. I felt off, and started calculating…I’m a day late, no wait, I’m three days late. Regular cycles weren’t a thing for me but I felt awful. So after a twelve hour shift I schlepped into the local CVS and bought a pregnancy test.
I took it the next night and it was positive before I finished peeing.
A flood of thoughts raced through my head, four kids, I’m old, high risk, had gestational diabetes, oh god, and nausea. The hubs took the news in stride and we waited for my doctor's appointment.
Something was different from day one; It wasn’t the normal morning sickness. It was 24/7 and unlike anything I had with the other three. When I peered over at the sonogram and saw two individual blobs I honestly wasn’t that surprised. All the pieces quickly clicked into place: twins. I would be lying if I said I didn’t struggle with the news. I knew so many people who were struggling to have children and here I was trying to find joy at the moment, but feeling overwhelmed, scared, and sick. I believe everything happens for a reason but this was a big one to swallow. Looking back I can’t imagine our family any other way. They are a jolt of unpredictable humor and unbridled wild that fill my heart full of love.
This blog is about all the antics and shenanigans that my two twin girls find themselves in and this was their origin story.
